Since this month’s edition comes on Remembrance Day, I’m remembering my grandfather, Frederic Earl Ross, in an imagined scene from his service in the Canadian navy. He’s passed now, so a toast. His nickname, though I suspect it was ironic, was Stormy. And since he also liked his Lamb’s Navy, here’s a cocktail he would probably have thought too fancy, but he wouldn’t let it go to waste.

Tall glass, ice
A jigger of rum (Lamb’s navy if you’ve got it and don’t be shy)
A healthy squeeze of lime
Fill with ginger beer (the biting hot kind, Jamaican; it should hurt a little)

Now tip your head back. Here’s to you and yours on Remembrance Day.
