snap June 2010: crunchy Cambodian street snacks

June 12, 2010

Tim Krochak and Christine Philpot-Krochak are almost back at home in Dartmouth, N.S., soon to be making their children’s eyes go wide with stories from their recent trip. Here’s one of their many amusing and moving dispatches — this one by Tim — which sets the scene for this month’s photo feature, snap.

“Cambodia is the best place ever, people are the most kind, generous, I’ve probably ever come across, even though their rest stop food is, at the risk of sounding culturally insensitive, not my fave. (Below is) a sampling of fried spider and cricket munchies near Skun, on our way to Phnom Penh yesterday afternoon. We ate at a fab place last night, run by former street youth. Not sure if you’ve ever had Angkor chicken curry before but I’m pretty much addicted, I may even have it for breakfast today.”
