snap: Timothy Allen on his photos for Human Planet

“I took about 10,000 to 20,000 images for each shoot,” Timothy Allen says of his still photography for the globe-travelling BBC TV series Human Planet.

Then he adds, confessionally, apologetically, laughing: “I’m a heavy shooter. Because I’m very finicky about pictures.”

That might rank as one of the most unneccessary statements you encounter this week. Spend 7 minutes and 28 seconds to listen to Allen narrate a slideshow of his work for the series, explaining how he got shots of … Well, you watch it now. And count the “wows”. They’ll be coming from you.
