clip: Alan Maitland reading The Shepherd on As It Happens

December 12, 2011

I have a place in my heart for the Grinch and Frosty and Charlie Brown and his puny fir, but the best Christmas story was heard on CBC Radio as I was driving along the TransCanada Highway from Brandon to Winnipeg on, of course, Christmas Eve. As It Happens’ Alan Maitland was doing the honours. The story was The Shepherd, a brilliantly suspenseful story of a pilot lost in the air and then found, adapted for radio from Frederick Forsyth’s novella of the same name.

And have a very merry Christmas.

  1. Wonderful. Thank you. I never flew Vampires but 30+ years as a pilot and navigator were brought back in an instant. Caught out 31 in a Jet Provost many years ago by a wandering compass and increasing icing I became increasingly aware of my own limitations. I made it back too. Merry Christmas!

    • very cool. thanks for your comment!
